Your gait, measured in three dimensions.

Most clinics film you from one angle. We capture the ankle, knee, hip and pelvis in full 3D, then compare your data against the world's largest biomechanical database — so treatment starts with the cause, not the symptom.

The difference

One camera sees one plane. Injuries happen in three.

A single-camera video tells you what your leg looks like from the side. It cannot tell you how your pelvis drops, how your knee rotates, or where the load is really going. That is where the cause usually hides.

Run and walk better

Prevention and treatment of running and walking injuries, built on the clinical research of the Running Injury Clinic rather than trial and error.

Advanced gait analysis

The first 3D biomechanical gait analysis system built for clinical use — nine years of development, applied to your own movement.

3D motion capture

Vicon cameras track reflective markers on your body and measure movement in all three dimensions at the ankle, knee, hip and pelvis.

A wealth of data

Your results are compared against a continually growing 3D biomechanical database, which is what turns a measurement into a diagnosis.

Walking & running clinic

Five steps to get you there

A sequence, run in order. Each step narrows the field until what is actually causing the pain is the only thing left standing.

Step01

Determine the root cause

Using clinical research from the Running Injury Clinic and the world's largest database of 3D biomechanical walking and running data, we identify what is really driving your injury — whether you run, walk or compete.

Step02

Advanced gait analysis

The first question is whether the problem is your shoe or your biomechanics. If it is the shoe, we recommend the right one. If it is biomechanical, treatment includes custom insoles that replace your natural footprint and stabilise the calcaneus to control excessive supination and pronation.

Step03

Identify the correct shoe

Improper training shoes are one of the biggest causes of muscle pain and injury. Our Footwear Formula combines your 3D gait biomechanics with our patented LAST device — Length Arch Shape Technology — for a shoe recommendation measured to the millimetre rather than guessed at in a shop.

Step04

Shoe wear and repair

Most running shoes need replacing every ±450 km, usually because of uneven heel wear rather than a worn-out shoe. Where the rest of the outsole is still sound, our repair service can give you another ±450 km out of them.

Step05

Learn how to prevent the next injury

Prevention is better than cure. You leave knowing how your body moves and what to do about it.

  • Which shoe actually works for you
  • Your running style, described in data
  • How to prevent the injuries you are prone to
  • How long your shoes should last
  • Training adjustments specific to your gait

Orthotic and prosthetic solutions

The science of walking comfort on one side, life-changing prosthetic care on the other. Both start with measurement.

Orthotics

Bracing, insoles and alignment

Foot and posture alignment, and the design, fitting and fabrication of customised orthotics and innersoles for functional, sporting and developmental needs. Custom foot insoles replace the natural footprint and stabilise the calcaneus, reducing excess supination and pronation.

Prosthetics

Custom artificial limbs

Prosthetic limbs are manufactured with one goal: giving each client the means to live life fully. Meticulous measurements and moulds form the basis of every device, often across several fittings, to reach the most comfortable, supportive and lightweight result. Every step is explained clearly, and family are welcome throughout.

Common questions

What exactly is 3D gait analysis?
Reflective markers are placed on your body and tracked by Vicon optical cameras while you walk or run. The system measures movement at the ankle, knee, hip and pelvis in all three dimensions, and compares your results against a large biomechanical database to identify the root cause of an injury.
Do you only see runners?
No. The walking and running clinic serves runners, walkers and athletes, and the practice also treats patients needing orthotic bracing, custom insoles, rehabilitation support and prosthetic limbs.
Will my medical aid cover the appointment?
Appointments are covered by most medical aids. If you would like to confirm your specific plan beforehand, get in touch and we will point you to the codes you need.
Can my running shoes be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes. Most running shoes are retired at around ±450 km because of uneven heel wear. If the rest of the outsole is still in good condition, our shoe repair service can extend their life by roughly another ±450 km.
Do you produce medical-legal reports?
Yes. Assessments and reports are available for road accident claims, medical negligence, medical boarding and personal injury claims.
